Queen
A British rock group that formed in 1970 and continues to perform today. The genre of Queen's music has been described as arena rock, glam rock, hard rock, and heavy metal. The band is noted for their over-the-top style and antics on stage. The band's founding members were
Freddie Mercury (lead singer), John May (lead guitar and piano), Roger Taylor (drums), and John Deacon (bass guitar). The group has been cited as an influence of numerous later bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, George Michael, KISS, the Flaming Lips, and Franz Ferdinand, among many others. In 2001, Queen were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
Queen's logo is known as the Queen crest, and depicts symbols of each of the band members' astrological signs: two lions for Taylor and Deacon, both Leos, a crab for May, a Cancer, and two fairies (meant to depict Virgo) for Mercury. The logo is topped with a phoenix.
